A BLACKHEATH community group has scooped a grant for a new digital archive showing photos of the village Heath.
The Blackheath Society gained a £7,900 cash boost for an online picture library of 1,500 images from the Heritage Lottery Fund last week.
The Story of the Heath will chart the history of the green space since the 19th Century and will be run by volunteers. T
he 75-year-old society is calling on residents to search their attics for any snaps of the Heath which could add to its 900-strong stockpile.
There will also be mobile exhibitions hung in local schools and churches, at Age Exchange’s library and the Blackheath Concert Halls.
Blackheath Society’s chairman Howard Shields said: “We are thrilled to have received the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund and are confident the project will encourage Blackheath people to become more involved in their local heritage.
“The grant will also greatly enhance our archive of local photographs.”
The award was part of HLF’s project All Our Stories. To learn more about Blackheath Society visit blackheath.org
