A 24-YEAR-OLD man has been charged with the murder of Thierry Christian-Gnanakumar in Lewisham.

Kohulan Podiappuhamey was arrested on Friday (November 16) and charged yesterday (November 17).

He will appear via video link at Bromley Magistrates Court tomorrow (November 19).

Officers were called at around 9:20pm on November 10 to reports of a disturbance in Lewisham High Street.

Thierry Christian-Gnanakumar, aged 22, of Catford was taken to hospital by ambulance suffering serious injuries.

He died in the early hours of November 11.

A post-mortem examination took place at Greenwich Mortuary and gave cause of death as severe blunt force trauma to the head and face.

An inquest opened on Thursday (November 15) at Southwark Coroner's Court and an incident room has opened at Lewisham under Detective Chief Inspector Graeme Gwyn of the Homicide and Serious Crime Command.

DCI Gwyn said: "I would appeal to anyone who was in the Lewisham High Street area around the time of the incident to contact my team. At this early stage we believe the victim was attacked by a group of males outside Lewisham Library.

"If you witnessed this assault, or the events leading up to or immediately after the assault, please call the incident room."
