A FOOTBALL manager is furious with yobs who took a minibus, drove it across pitches and ploughed it into a goal.

Kevin Harris, general manager of Long Lane Junior Football Club, was outraged by the attack on the pitches in Dursley Road, Kidbrooke.

It will leave the pitches unusable for up to six weeks.

More than £1,500 of damage was caused to the pitches and equipment by the yobs.

Mr Harris believes they could be members of the 25-year-old club.

The incident, which happened shortly after midnight, was captured on CCTV.

Tapes showing the attack are now in the hands of the police.

The incident is the latest setback for the club.

It has been targeted twice by burglars since June and had two plasma screen TVs stolen.

In April, a gang of 20 yobs held knives to three of the club's members as they were leaving the site.

Long Lane is attended by more than 450 youngsters aged between six and 16.

Its premises were transformed in 2003 after it received £1.5m of funding to provide new changing rooms, a clubhouse, an all-weather pitch and a gym.

Father-of-two Mr Harris said: "I'm furious with what has happened.

"We've got this place looking good and our hard work is being destroyed by the youngsters we're trying to help.

"Everything we do here is for the kids but some just seem to want to destroy it.

"Youngsters from the area are doing this and I think they must come to the club because they must have knowledge of what we've got here."

The 27-year-old added: "As it is, we've had a terrible year with the pitches because of the drought and for them to take the van through the pitches is despicable.

"We let some kids come here and use our facilities for free because we know they need help but we may have to stop this."
