PENSIONERS are to join forces at a national demonstration to lobby the Government about pension rates.

Members of the Greenwich Pensioners' Forum will join around 1,000 other OAPs at the Houses of Parliament on October 25 to lobby the Government for failing to address the scale of pensioner poverty.

The campaign, being led by the National Pensioners' Convention, will criticise the Government's recent white paper on pensions and call for the current state pension to be raised from £84.25 a week to £114.

Greenwich Pensioners' Forum vice-chairman Ron White said: "Britain has the fourth strongest economy in the world but our older people are left to rely on demeaning means-tested benefits and handouts to make ends meet."

Greenwich Pensioners' Forum meets at 10am on the last Friday of each month at Woolwich Town Hall, Wellington Street. Pensioners in Greenwich are welcome to attend.
