A SECONDARY school has been praised for helping out in the community.
Plumstead Manor School, Old Mill Road, Plumstead, was the regional winner for London in the Giving Nation Award.
The award celebrates how youngsters can make a difference to other people's lives.
It is part of the Citizenship Foundation, a partnership between charities and the Government aiming to develop the culture of giving and issues of citizenship in the UK.
Student activities have included visiting the elderly in the community and raising money for charities such as Cancer Research UK.
Plumstead Manor was presented with the award on October 12 at the Treasury in London, along with other winning schools across the UK out of 100 entrants.
Head of personal development Leigh Ott said: "Through the delivery of citizenship lessons, we ensure students have a real understanding of the effects their actions could have on others.
"Our students have a strong social conscience and we are extremely proud of their achievements."
