A SCHOOL science department has been recognised for its teaching of forensics.
Crown Woods School, Riefield Road, Eltham, beat eight other finalists to win the first Rolls Royce Science Prize for its forensic project.
The school has introduced crime scenes into Year 9 lessons so pupils could learn more about scientific inquiries.
Students get the chance to examine evidence including fingerprints and carry out DNA analysis.
Headteacher Mike Murphy said: "I'm absolutely delighted with this achievement.
"The prize is a prestigious competitive award and our success is due to the outstanding leadership shown by project leader Shona Findlay."
The school was awarded £15,000 at a gala dinner in Derby.
It will invest the cash in science education.
