A HISTORIC open-air swimming pool is open to the public for 12 weeks over the summer.

The Charlton Lido, Hornfair Park, Charlton Park Lane, will be open to swimmers from 10.30am to 6pm every day until September 3.

During the three-month spell, the 50m Olympic-sized pool with be managed by Greenwich Leisure Ltd, the council's leisure provider.

The Charlton Lido Swimming Club manages the pool for the rest of the year.

People can make use of the main pool, a sunbathing deck and a toddler splash pool.

Greenwich Council is still in talks about securing long-term funding for the pool, which opened in 1939.

In March council chiefs announced they had entered negotiations with private company Open Waters Ltd about building a £3.8m diving centre on the site.

Negotiations are still ongoing.
