TOUGH talking has won a secondary school a place in the final of a national speaking contest.
Thomas Tallis School, Kidbrooke Park Road, Blackheath, has reached the final of the Debating Matters competition.
More than 100 schools from across the country entered the competition, which is run by the National Institute of Ideas.
The team of sixth form students from Thomas Tallis is one of just eight schools to qualify for the final.
This will be held in central London next month.
The Thomas Tallis speakers showed their debating skills by discussing the motion The UK Is Right To Resist The Commercial Planting Of GM Crops.
Teacher Richard Stubbs says the key to the pupils' success is they have been equivocal in their arguments.
He added: "The competition pushes everyone to their limit. The resulting confidence can only be a good thing."
