PROSTITUTES in the area are offering unprotected oral sex for as little as £10.

Eaves, a charity which provides accommodation and support to trafficked women, also told News Shopper that some brothels in Lewisham and Greenwich are offering unprotected full sex for just £30.

The shocking findings come from the charity's Poppy Project study of brothels across London which found there were 26 brothels advertised in the print media across the two boroughs.

Researchers posed as potential punters and phoned brothels advertised in local newspapers. They asked for prices as well as details about the women who worked there.

The study found 22 of the brothels were based in private flats, two in private houses and two in massage parlours.

Helen Atkins, a researcher on the project, said such low prices suggest prostitutes are under intense pressure.

She said: "Where there is sex at a cheap price it begs the question 'are they offering it of their own free will, or are they being forced into it?'.

"It could also suggest they are suffering from some degree of poverty or even being forced to accept low prices by whoever is running the brothel.

"It's worth noting that our research was focused purely on services which are advertised in the local print media. We didn't even look at online sources and so our findings are barely scratching the surface."

She added: "Of course it is a huge hypocrisy that newspapers run headlines on the front page such as 'Sex slaves in London' but then show readers where to find them in the back page adverts.

"It really is completely unacceptable and I would like to see a blanket ban on all such advertising."

The Poppy Project found one brothel in London's Waltham Forest which was offering 'high risk' unprotected full sex for £15.

In July News Shopper made the decision to remove all adult service advertisements from its print and online publications to play its part in tackling people trafficking and sex slavery.
