Have your say on development plans

PEOPLE are being asked for their views on a proposed major development including 800 homes, shops and a leisure centre.

Consultations on the plans for the regeneration of Loampit Vale have been launched by Barratt Homes in partnership with Lewisham Council.

A cultural centre, a new park and a leisure centre including an eight-lane swimming pool, a gym, a cafe, a creche and a health spa are part of the proposals.

An exhibition of the plans will be held at Lewisham Bridge Primary School, in Elmira Street, from May 15 to May 17.

Barratt Homes managing director Alastair Baird said: "We want to work with residents and the council to make sure the Loampit Vale proposals which go forward make a valuable contribution to the life of the area."

Barratt will submit a planning application for the site in the summer.

A fact that I brought to the attention of the Mayor of Lewisham is that the planning done for the leisure centre is a completely botched job.
The study made by Lewisham Council to determine the size of the leisure centre do not include the thousands of new flats to be built as part of the redevelopment of the Town Centre (800 in this develoment alone) and don't even consider the vicinity to the transport interchange that will add further usage.
This leisure centre will be horribly overcrowded.
This is a lifestyle pool for teh new developments, the current users of the Ladywell Leisure Centre, that this new centre is supposed to replace, will find it much harder to have a swim.

It's a terrible shame that the Mayor of Lewisham has only worked to shove aside any criticism, no matter how constructive.
