DO you know an unsung hero? Someone who makes a real difference to the community? Maybe its a friend, a neighbour or someone in your neighbourhood?
If so, we want to hear from you.
Your News Shopper is joining forces with Greenwich Shopping Park, Bugsby Way, to launch an exciting new campaign to find the Greenwich Local Hero of the Year 2008.
We want you to tell us about someone in your area who deserves some recognition.
The campaign, supported by Greenwich Council, will showcase the valuable work they do and celebrate the community spirit that exists across the borough.
Sian Nicholls, from Greenwich Shopping Park, said: "As a retail business in the area it's important for us to not only connect and communicate with our customers, but also to contribute something to the wider community.
"We are working closely with Greenwich Council and the News Shopper Series to find local people who work hard at making a contribution to the area in which they live.
"We'd like to invite community members to nominate people who they think deserve to be crowned Greenwich Local Hero of the Year 2008, whether its through charity or voluntary work, for the benefit of young people or old, we want to hear their stories."
The entries will be judged by Sian Nicholls, Councillor John Fahy, cabinet member for culture, and News Shopper's editor Richard Firth.
The winner will be rewarded with a prize relevant to the work they carry out in the community, to the value of £250, to further benefit the work they do.
To nominate your hero send no more than 400 words explaining about the contribution they make to the community, and send it to Greenwich Local Hero of the Year 2008, Claire Burke, Mega House, Crest View Drive, Petts Wood, BR5 1BT or email cburke@london.newsquest.co.uk.
Deadline for entries is July 14.
