PUPILS have returned with an award from an American robotics competition.
Year 10 pupils from Addey and Stanhope School, New Cross Road, and Catford High School, Bellingham Road, took part in the First Robotics competition from March 13 to March 15 at the United States Naval Academy, Maryland.
The youngsters built a human-sized robot to perform tasks with a ball, competing against 62 other machines, and were given an award for being the most inspiring rookie team.
They were supported by the Stephen Lawrence Trust charity for disadvantaged youngsters, Imperial College, outreach activity designers Exscitec and the Met Police.
Catford High School design and technology teacher Paul Soffe praised the hard work of the 14 pupils, two Imperial College mentors and fellow teacher Helen Woolgar.
He said: "It's inspired the students to consider future courses in science and engineering and we're now seeking sponsorship to take a group of students to next year's competition."
