PEOPLE are being urged to take a slice of £225m of government cash which is up for grabs.

The money is part of the Children's Plan and will be used to upgrade or build children's play areas across the country.

There will also be another £160m for new youth facilities, designed by young people themselves.

Erith and Thamesmead MP John Austin is urging parents, groups and young people to get together and bid for funding for projects.

He says the new money would provide an average of 23 new playgrounds for each local authority in the country as well as 50 new state-of-the-art youth centres nationwide.

It could also buy 500 refurbished centres or 2,000 smaller scale centres or mobile youth facilities.

Mr Austin has already written to Greenwich Council asking how it will be consulting and involving young people in the decision making.

He would also like to hear directly from young people in his constituency.

They can write to him at House of Commons, London SW1A 0AA or email austinj@parliament.uk
