PENSIONERS have been learning about black history.

The Lewisham Pensioners' Forum, which provides advice for the over-60s, and housing association South London Family Housing held the event to celebrate the diversity of pensioners living in the borough and to mark Black History Month.

The free event was held at the Lewisham Irish Centre, Davenport Road, Catford.

There was food available from countries such as Uganda, India, Zimbabwe and Ireland and the day also featured singing, dancing and readings about black history.

Cath Fowler, 85, of Reventlow Road, New Eltham, sang traditional Irish song The Rose of Tralee.

She said: "There were easily 100 people attending and it was a really enjoyable afternoon."
