A FISH and chip shop in Lewisham has been prosecuted for breaching food safety regulations.
Naresh Gopal, owner of the Angel Fish Bar in Loampit Vale, was fined £2,000 and ordered to pay £1,180 in costs to Lewisham Council.
He pleaded guilty at Greenwich Magistrates' Court to two charges of failing to comply with a food hygiene notice.
The notice was served on him when it was discovered a food handler was preparing high-risk foods but was not trained in food hygiene and was not being supervised or instructed.
Lewisham Council member for customer services, Councillor Susan Wise, said: "We have a duty of care to protect people from businesses who flout food safety regulations.
"We won't hesitate to prosecute where we see businesses failing to meet food safety standards."
The Angel Fish Bar has now closed and the premises is under new ownership.
