VISITORS to a historic palace have been transported 70 years into the past.

Eltham Palace, Court Road, Eltham, held a 1930s fashion event featuring four afternoon shows held in its Great Hall.

Historical costume expert Nottie Hornblower, who runs a costume museum in the Peak District, presented authentic clothes from the era, some of which came from her own collection.

Styles of clothes were modelled which guests would have sported at Eltham's 1930s soirees.

Around 800 visitors watched the shows and were then able to walk around the 1930s Art Deco mansion, its adjoining Tudor building and the palace gardens.

The event was organised by English Heritage, the Government-funded organisation which manages historic sites in England.

English Heritage sales and marketing manager Wendy Davidson said: "Eltham Palace is a true hidden gem of 1930s style, and this event brought back some of the glamour and fun to the house.

"We were delighted to see so many visitors, young and old, enjoying the short fashion shows."
