THE building of a new borough swimming pool is set to be agreed tonight.
Lewisham Mayor Steve Bullock is set to give the nod for a 25m eight-lane competition pool and teaching pool at the Loampit Vale site in Lewisham.
At the mayor and cabinet meeting at the civic suite, Catford, Mr Bullock will also note the results of a public consultation which took place in October.
Lewisham Council sent a leaflet to residents and 400 businesses and held a consultation event at Ladywell Leisure Centre about the Loampit Vale proposal.
The three-hectare development site will also include private and affordable housing and commercial space.

This is the leisure centre that should replace the Ladywell Leisure Centre. It's enormously undersized and will be a massive damage to the arrea. The message is clear: "we're not good enough"!
Those in charge at Lewisham Council think that we really don't deserve a decent sport and leisure centre and want to get away with this small pool and gym in the basement of a block of flats.
This is an insult to all residents. The consultation was another insult and I hpe that the Mayor thinks twice before approving this monstruosity that will be a damage to residents of all ages for a very long period.
