A 200-YEAR-OLD pub has been saved and included in a housing development.
The Lord Hood in Creek Road, Greenwich, was earmarked for demolition as part of the Bardsley Lane Development.
Originally, developer Rock Investments wanted planning permission to demolish the pub to make way for 106 homes and shops.
The pub was planned to be replaced by an access route between the recreation ground backing onto Bardsley Lane and the four-storey block.
But at last week's planning board meeting at Woolwich Town Hall, Wellington Street, Woolwich, it was announced the pub would be retained if the development gets the go-ahead.
Saying some parts of Rock's application were out of character with the area, councillors deferred a decision on planning permission until the new year.
The Save the Lord Hood Pub Action Group collected more than 2,500 signatures on a petition opposing the pub's demolition.
Chairman George Bridges said at the meeting: "I would like to thank everybody who supported us."
