A VIOLENT thug who murdered a fitness instructor in a pub toilet while on bail for another violent attack has been jailed for life.

Thuvan Nguyen, aged 31, smashed a pint glass into the neck of 23 year-old Billy Gregory two weeks after a similar attack on another drinker.

It was just two years after Billy's younger brother Terry Gregory, 19, was stabbed to death in a street fight.

Nguyen was convicted at the Old Bailey last month and on Monday he was told he would serve at least 14 years behind bars.

Billy Gregory bumped into Nguyen, who was drinking alone, and there was a brief confrontation at the Earl of Chatham pub, Woolwich on December 23.

Later Billy walked into the toilet to find Nguyen in there with a glass.

Prosecutor Simon Denison said: "Billy had his hand on the defendant's arm to move him out of his way.

"The defendant then deliberately thrust the glass he was holding into the left side of Billy's neck."

Mr Gregory, from Charlton, collapsed in the street from loss of blood.

He suffered a massive stroke and died at 11.45am on Christmas Day.

Nguyen, of Queens Road West, Upton Park, claimed he had been racially abused in the toilet by Mr Gregory but was found guilty of murder.

He had been on bail after he got into a row with friends Tim O'Sullivan and Tommy O'Shea at the Great Harry pub, Woolwich, on December 7 and caused a wound to Mr O'Sullivan's head which needed 14 stitches.

Nguyen was arrested but the case against him was later dropped.
