LIBRARY staff in Greenwich will walk out on a four-day strike from Friday in a dispute over the service's future.

Members of the Unite union will strike until May 1 with further industrial action planned for May 11.

It follows a decision by Greenwich Council's cabinet to transfer the library service to Greenwich Leisure Ltd.

The union claims proper consultation was not carried out, that jobs could be put at risk by the move, and any new staff will be employed on worse pay and conditions.

Unite regional officer Onay Kasab said: "The council has lost no time in claiming the good times are coming to the borough as a result of the Olympics. But here is the real story.

"Royal, Olympic Greenwich is transfering its staff out to a company that will cut pay and conditions for these staff."
