Murder accused feared she was the last person to see pensioner alive, jury hears

THE woman accused of murdering a Downham pensioner told a neighbour she was afraid she had been the last person to see the 86-year-old alive, a jury has heard.

Pat Jobson’s body was found in her house in Oakridge Road, Downham, on February 20 last year.

Karen Williamson, aged 46, of Rangefield Road, Downham, denies murder.

On February 24, one of Williamson's neighbours, Elena Bortko-Conteh, visited her at home to ask for the return of some money she had previously borrowed.

Giving evidence at the Old Bailey today Ms Bortko-Conteh told jurors Williamson let her into the house and then went and lay down on the sofa complaining of a splitting headache.

She told the court: "She asked me did I hear that the woman was killed in Downham? I said I hadn't.

"She said that she saw that on the news and she spoke with another neighbour about that.

"She said, you know, I am afraid that I am the last person to see her because I popped in, in the morning, to have a cup of tea and see how she was and she gave me £20 towards future gardening work. "

Ms Bortka-Conteh went on to say Williamson told her she had informed the police that she feared she was the last person to see Mrs Jobson alive.

The trial continues.
