A CRACK addict was high when she bludgeoned to death a Downham pensioner in a frenzied attack, a court has heard.

Pat Jobson's body was found in her house in Oakridge Road, Downham, on February 20 last year.

Karen Williamson, aged 46, of Rangefield Road, Downham, denies murder.

Williamson was first arrested in connection with the murder on February 26 last year, a week after the killing.

Prosecutor Brian Altman told jurors that during a police interview, Williamson told officers that on February 18 she had gone to a crack dealer in the afternoon and then went home to smoke it.

She then went out to buy some more crack later in the evening, the Old Bailey heard.

Jurors heard she had told police she smoked the drugs and the next thing she remembered was the Saturday morning (February 19).

The prosecution alleges Mrs Jobson was murdered in the early hours of the Saturday, as a neighbour recalled hearing thudding noises coming from her home at around 12.30am.

Williamson initially denied having anything to do with the 86-year-old's death and was released on bail until her subsequent arrest the following week.

Prosecutor Brian Altman said that after she was charged on March 6, the defendant told police she had gone to visit Mrs Jobson on the night of February 18. Mr Altman told jurors: "She made a complete confession to the murder of Pat Jobson.

"She described herself as being on crack at the time.

"She explained that Mrs Jobson had started shouting at her on the occasion that she visited her.

"That Mrs Jobson had grabbed hold of her arms and that Williamson just attacked her.

"She said that when she realised she had hit her she couldn't go back.

"She said she flipped and was in a frenzy and she just hit her and hit her and hit her."

Mr Altman went on to tell jurors that Williamson made a further confession to a prison officer at Holloway Prison, where she was being detained after being charged.

He said: "She told told the prison officer that she didn't know how many times she had hit her.

"She said the pathologist said it was one of the worst he had seen.

"She also said that she didn't deserve it."

The trial continues.
