PEOPLE are being encouraged to get fit by signing up to play softball.

Mayor of Lewisham Sir Steve Bullock launched the Hit the Pitch programme in Ladywell Fields Park with a game between Lewisham Council and the NHS South East London.

Sir Steve said: “I have to confess I’ve never played softball before but then that was the idea.

“I hope a lot more people will come along and try one of our taster sessions. It’s a great way of keeping fit but it’s also a lot of fun.”

News Shopper: Mayor of Lewisham Sir Steve Bullock You can set up your own team and join the adult league, which will run in Ladywell Fields, Deptford Park and Home Park on Wednesday evenings from June 22.

Taster sessions will be led by a Baseball Softball UK professional coach on Thursdays in June at parks across Lewisham.
