POLICE are appealing for information after the body of a young man was found in the Thames.

Officers believe that the body might have been in the water for seven days before police spotted it at Ballast Quay, Greenwich, on January 10.

The man, in his late twenties, is 5ft 9in, Asian, has short black hair and brown eyes. He had the number 786 tattooed on his left hand.

He was wearing a black tracksuit jacket with blue stripes, grey jumper, green tracksuit bottoms, black belt with a white metal buckle and a green baseball cap.

The unidentified man had an Italian driving licence and an NHS card in the name of Varinder Singh. He also had a Selco trade card and a TV licence.

He was unknown at the address found on his identification.

Police believe that the death is not suspicious.
