TWELVE parks in a borough have been awarded for being among the country’s best green spaces.

Lewisham’s Brookmill Park and Cornmill Gardens as well as Deptford Park were among those awarded Green Flags.

Other parks to receive an award were Chinbrook Meadows in Grove Park, Hilly Fields in Brockley and Bellingham Green in Bellingham.

A Green Flag Award recognises well-managed, high-quality green spaces.

Any green space is eligible to win the award providing visitors can enter free of charge.

Manor House Gardens in Hither Green, Sydenham Wells park in Sydenham, Manor Park in Lee and Telegraph Hill Park in New Cross also received an award.

Both Blackheath and Ladywell Fields received the award for a second year.
