NEW CROSS: Two women jailed for attack on female passenger at railway station

TWO women have been sentenced to a total of six-and-a-half years in jail after a female passenger was attacked and robbed at New Cross railway station.

Shukri Warsame, aged 24, was sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison while 20-year-old Saida Mohamed was given a three-year sentence at Southwark Crown Court yesterday (July 27).

A 15-year-old girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, will be sentenced at a later date.

The 29-year-old victim from New Cross was attacked at around 10.25pm on November 20 last year.

Detective Sergeant John Wolstenholme, from British Transport Police’s robbery squad, said: “Warsame attacked her with a large glass vodka bottle, striking her repeatedly on the back of the head and demanding she hand over her mobile phone.

“Mohamed and the other girl joined in the attack, punching and kicking her until they had managed to prise the mobile phone from her hand.”

The trio also took the woman’s handbag before trying to run off but they were restrained by other passengers.

The victim was taken to hospital where she received stitches for the wound on her head.

Warsame, from Leytonstone, pleaded guilty to robbery and wounding with intent to do GBH.

Mohamed, from Gunnersbury, was found guilty of robbery.

She was found not guilty of wounding with intent to do GBH and a separate charge of unlawful wounding.

The teenage girl, from Ilford, was found guilty of robbery.

Det Sgt Wolstenholme added: “This was a vicious, despicable and cowardly attack which left a passenger who had no chance of defending herself against three others badly injured.”

The only beacon of light to emerge from this dreadful robbery is that the low life that did this were restrained by other passengers. Thank god there were enough good people brave enough to protect this poor victim.

I think I am right in saying that these two will be out in around a year and a half, the victim on the other hand will have the inevitable mental scars for at least ten years and probably her whole life, certainly it's something she will never forget. So why can't we put these two dangerous people away for a minimum of ten years, why should they be allowed to forget in a year and a half, the answer is, as always, the same, a lack of space in prisons, well sorry but if a ten year sentence was the norm for an offence like this then these people wouldn't do it in the first place (would you risk ten years behind bars for a mobile phone worth less than a weeks dole money) so I believe the prison population would actually fall as soon as the resident scum bags realised that a welcome rest in prison from the daily grind of robbery, assault, mugging, vandalism and what ever else the job description states, is perhaps not all it's cracked up to be. Who knows, they might turn from the lowlife criminals they are into useful members of society loved and cherished by all, yeah...and I'm sure I just saw a flying pig!

Phillips Olaosebikan Idowu - What would you make of that name ? Born in Hackney (Crackney) 31 years old Nigerian origin ......... Just won 3 golds for GB. There have been Somalians in this country for years. Trouble is a few of them now give the rest a bad name.
