A 30-YEAR-OLD woman has been handed a suspended prison sentence for swindling the NHS out of more than £18,000.
Regina Aghedo of Longbridge Way, Lewisham, was given a nine-month prison term, suspended for two years, at Woolwich Crown Court on June 24.
Aghedo started a diploma in adult health nursing at Thames Valley University in September 2006.
On her application for the course she falsely declared she had been granted refugee status when she entered the UK in April 2006.
She also falsely stated she was both an asylum seeker and recognised as a refugee when she applied for an NHS student bursary of £18,580.
Aghedo, who was also given an eight-month curfew order, had previously been found guilty of false accounting at Inner London Crown Court following a three-day trial.
