A 44-YEAR-OLD man has been jailed for rape after attacking a woman in his flat.

Ali Ugurel, of Sprules Road, Brockley, was given an indeterminate sentence and must serve a minimum of three years and 130 days in prison.

Woolwich Crown Court heard that in July last year Ugurel held his 45-year-old victim captive in his flat where he raped and assaulted her.

The woman reported the incident to police in August and Lewisham police’s Sapphire unit investigated.

Ugurel was found guilty of rape, kidnap and assault on January 29.

Detective Constable Colin Foster said: “I pay tribute to the victim, who had to go through the process of reporting her ordeal and reliving it in court.

“However, I am pleased for the victim the case is over and she can now rebuild her life.”

He added: “Ugurel has been given an indeterminate public protection sentence, which means he will not be released until a parole board decide it is safe to release him.

“I hope the victim’s courage in going through this court case will lead other victims to come forward and report these crimes. We will investigate all allegations of sexual abuse.”

Ugurel has been put on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.
