ROWING legend Sir Steve Redgrave was given an oarsome welcome when he visited a college.
The five-times Olympic champion visited Woolwich Polytechnic, Hutchins Road, Thamesmead, to launch a sports scheme.
Sports Search is a computer-based initiative allowing youngsters to build up a profile of themselves and find out which sports are most suitable for them.
Sir Steve talked to students and took part in a few sporting challenges in the sports hall.
Cabinet member for children Councillor Jackie Smith, who attended the launch, said: "Sir Steve is one of this country's greatest sporting heroes.
"I am sure young people in the borough will be able to draw inspiration from what he has achieved."
