Access facilities on web

11:23am Tuesday 17th January 2006

DISABLED people will soon be able to find out if a building is accessible to them at the click of a mouse.

Charity DisabledGo will visit more than 1,000 shops and other business in the borough to assess how disability-friendly they are.

It will then publish the findings in a database on its website so disabled people can find out in advance which are the easiest places to access.

The accessibility initiative is being backed by Lewisham Council.

It is open to all businesses including shops and pubs, restaurants and banks.

Mayor Steve Bullock said: "This will give disabled people the freedom and confidence to spend their time and money in Lewisham."
