A RAPE case has finally reached court 17 years after the crime was allegedly committed.
Martin John, of Perry Vale, Forest Hill, is charged with raping a 23-year-old woman in a churchyard on July 14, 1988.
The 44-year-old is being accused of raping the woman in the grounds of the United Reformed Church, Courthill Road, Forest Hill.
The arrest comes off the back of a fresh investigation, conducted by the Met's specialist rape unit, Operation Sapphire.
John has been remanded in custody and is set to make an appearance at Woolwich Crown Court on Friday.
