A HUSBAND and wife are celebrating being made MBEs just six months apart.
Gurdial Singh Seehra, 69, of Bastion Road, Woolwich, was named in the New Year Honours list for his work with a Punjabi language school.
Last summer his wife Kuldeep, 59, received the same honour for her work with the Inland Revenue in the Asian community.
Mr Seehra, a grandfather of five who has run the Crescent Road school for six years, said: "I am very proud. It's nice to be recognised.
"I like that my wife also has an MBE, I think it might be something of a first."
Honours were also given to Barbara Bartlett from Blackheath, a personal secretary at the prison service; Professor Robert Pinker, from Blackheath for public service at the Press Complaints Commission; Seva Levenstein-Novgorodsev from Woolwich for services to broadcasting as a presenter for the BBC Russian Service; and Gloria Mills from Catford for services to equal opportunities as a director of Unison.
