THE Horniman Museum has beaten off stiff competition to scoop Britain's Best Park Award for the south east.
Judged by horticultural experts, the Horniman Gardens were among nine regional winners across the country to be voted best public green space for their region.
The gardens at the museum in London Road, Forest Hill, have also retained their prestigious Green Flag status, which is the national standard for green parks and spaces offering free public access.
Gordon Lucas, manager of Horniman Gardens, said: "It is always a great honour to receive these national awards but it would not have been possible without the combined dedication and sheer hard work of all those people involved in making the Horniman Gardens the green oasis it is today."
