SIXTY-FIVE secondary school pupils are celebrating after scooping special achievement awards.
Students across Lewisham were presented with a Jack Petchey Achievement Award at a ceremony held at the Albany Theatre on Douglas Way, Deptford.
Winners were rewarded for a variety of achievements and received a medal, framed certificate and a £200 cheque for their school.
Adrian Kusiak, 12, from Catford High School on Bellingham Road, Catford, won his award for his contribution to school and the local community.
Other winners were 15-year-old Frankie Gray from Abbey Manor College on Falmouth Close, Lee, and 11-year-old Izzy Sterba-Podro from Sydenham School on Dartmouth Road, Sydenham.
Joan Ruddock MP for Lewisham and Deptford said: “The most significant thing for me was the fact so many of the awards were for helping others, service to the school and community and being a good friend – essentials for life yet often not recognised.”
The Jack Petchey Foundation provides grants to programmes and projects which benefit young people aged 11 to 25.
