CHARLTON: Children celebrate World Book Day with author

PRIMARY school children have been celebrating World Book Day by learning about the human body.

Pupils from St. Joseph’s Catholic Primary School on Commerell Street, Greenwich, attended a one hour workshop at WHSmith, Greenwich Shopping Park, Charlton.

Author of Little Geniuses, Kate Lennard, recited pieces from her books based on the human body, while the children dressed up in lab coats, goggles and magnifying glasses.

The youngsters aged five to seven held a fake cow’s eye ball and a fake human brain as a way of learning about the body.

Headteacher Catherine Green said: “All the children were absolutely delighted to be involved in the World Book Day event and I’ve never seen anyone engage with the children quite like Kate.

“The children loved getting involved in the activity and it really did spark more interest in reading books.”
