GREENWICH: Police appeal after mosque fire


POLICE investigating a fire at an Islamic centre have released photos of two men they are trying to trace.

A mosque at the Greenwich Islamic Centre in Plumstead Road was badly damaged on June 16 in a fire which started just after midnight.

These photos were recovered from CCTV cameras on the route 96 bus travelling from Bexleyheath to Plumstead on the night of the fire.

The first man is described as white, in his 20s, with a shaved head, wearing a black leather jacket, a t-shirt with a Lonsdale logo, jeans and white trainers.

The other, is also white and in his 20s, wearing a jacket with dark shoulder pads, light trainers and holding a blue carrier bag.

Detective Sergeant Simon Beechey form Greenwich CID who is investigating the fire, said: “The fire not only endangered the mosque and its community but all those who live in the surrounding area.”
