PLUMSTEAD: Terry Booker killer still on run, almost one month after prison escape

THE mother of a murdered teenager is living in fear, one month after her son’s killer escaped from prison.

Terry Booker, 19, died after a knife attack in Plumstead in November 2000.

Terry Lowe, aged 24, was convicted of the killing in 2001, when he was 16 and was serving a 10-year sentence for murder at Hewell prison in Worcestershire.

West Mercia Police confirmed he escaped from the open prison with two other inmates and was discovered missing during roll call on June 7, at 9.40am.

Terry Booker’s mum Lynne says she is distraught knowing her son’s killer has still not been caught.

She said: “Since he escaped it’s been awful. You can’t imagine how it’s been knowing he’s out there.

“It’s changed my day to day life big time and put me back to day one.

“I feel heartbroken and I feel I’m doing the time, not him.

“You don’t think your child is going to go before you. The day my son was killed I started a life sentence.”

Ms Booker is furious Lowe was able to escape and cannot understand why he would break out after serving nine years of his sentence.

She says she has asked Jack Straw, the Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice, to help her go before the Parole Board and grill them on how Lowe was able to escape.

She says she has been in regular contact with Mr Straw and has thanked Greenwich Police for their support.

Police describe Lowe as 5ft 9ins tall and of medium build.

He has short dark brown hair.

The Prison Service, West Mercia Police and the Met Police are appealing for the public’s help in tracking down Lowe and the other escaped prisoners.
