A TEENAGER remains critically ill in hospital after he was shot in New Cross yesterday (April 21).
Police believe the 18-year-old was shot in the leg as he ran away from a group of youths that he had been in a dispute with earlier in the afternoon.
His 19-year-old friend sustained minor injuries in the attack in Nynehead Street at around 4pm.
But police say these injuries were not caused by bullets and he has discharged himself from hospital.
The shooting was originally being investigated by Lewisham CID but it is now being dealt with by officers from Operation Trident.
News Shopper spoke to a New Cross resident who lives near the scene of the shooting.
He said: "It goes on all the time. By the time you write about this one there will probably be four or five more.
"All we do is look after each other and try to get our kids off the street."
Anyone who has any information should call the police on 020 8733 4774 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
