Visitors get wheel view of capital

VISITORS have had the chance to take in a different view of the capital on a new 60-metre-high wheel.

The Greenwich Wheel, at the Old Royal Naval College, opened to the public on June 27 and will run until September 28.

It offers views beyond the Tower of London to Hampstead Heath and the Lea Valley Olympic site.

The wheel, which has 36 gondolas each holding six people, completes a rotation in about 12 minutes and is open 10am until 10pm.

Its site is close to where the first big wheel in Britain was built at Maudslay Son and Field Works in East Greenwich in 1895 for the Earls Court Exhibition.

Tickets are £7 for adults and £4.50 for children aged under 16.

Bookings for the Greenwich Wheel can be made at greenwichwheel.com
