Editor takes time out for mayoral campaign

THE editor at large of cultural magazine Time Out is to stand as a candidate for London Mayor.

Michael Hodges, from Sydenham, claims he is trying to save London from politicians and formally launched his campaign today (February 21) at Speakers' Corner in Hyde Park.

On his website, the 43-year-old says: "My experience of being a Londoner means I understand this city in a way that the other candidates don't.

"I have lived in Greenwich, Camberwell, Putney, Barnes, Balham, Clapham, Shooters Hill, Battersea and on a boat on the Thames.

"In short I have lived a London life, and that experience makes me uniquely qualified among the runners for Mayor of London."

Mr Hodges is seeking policy ideas from Londoners and his manifesto so far includes re-nationalising the Underground, later licensing hours in West End pubs and replacing Asbos with community service.

He is currently trying to raise the £10,000 deposit that all candidates need to stand for mayor and has launched a campaign website.
