Learning how to use computers

SEVEN students with learning disabilities have been recognised after finishing computer training.

Arkin Azmi and James Bennett, both 24; Lana Dunnett, 28; Chris Judge, 21; Kerry Lovage, 35; Ros Thomson, 33, and Felicity Turner, 20, did the training through Woolwich-based Working With Words.

They were presented with certificates for completing their training, which they started last September, at a ceremony in north west London.

This was hosted by the charity Camden Society, which works with people with learning disabilities.

The students, from Greenwich, had been studying Level 1 of the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL).

They are due to take the ECDL exam this month.

ECDL is a basic qualification, which teaches pupils how to use a computer and helps enhance their career prospects.

Working with Words is a non-profit organisation which is part-funded by Greenwich Council and organisations such as the Foyle Foundation and Lloyds TSB.

Manager Kathy Smith said: "This is a great achievement for our service users and is the culmination of months of hard work by them and their trainer. Everyone is very proud."
