2,300 people in Lewisham have diabetes but don't know it
An estimated 2,300 people in Lewisham are unaware they have Type 2 diabetes but are about to get a free chance to find out.
Diabetes, one of the most common conditions affecting people in the UK, is likely to lead to complications such as heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, blindness and amputation if not diagnosed early enough.
A Lewisham roadshow will raise awareness of risk factors for Type 2 diabetes, which include being overweight or having a large waist, being aged over 40 and having a close relative with diabetes.
People can also have a free risk assessment courtesy of charity Diabetes UK.
It takes place on Molesworth Street, outside Lewisham Shopping centre on may 3 and 4 from 9am to 5pm.
