A HOSPITAL boss is getting on her bike and travelling across the world to raise money for homeless youngsters.
Executive director of BMI Fawkham Manor in Longfield, Valerie Power and her husband John will cycle 500 kilometres from Saigon in Vietnam to Angkor Wat in Cambodia in six days for charity Centrepoint.
Valerie, who has previously trekked across jungles in Tanzania, the Grand Canyon and the Great Wall of China, said: “I feel very lucky, I have four grown up children and we all get on very well as a family. I would like to think the funds we raise will help those who are less fortunate to build new lives for themselves.”
She added: “Training has been tough as it’s the day to day cycling that will take its toll once we’re out there and it’s not always possible to train everyday with work and a family. I’ve been to the gym and we’ve tried to get out on the bikes as often as possible but it will be a huge challenge cycling 50-90 kilometres a day. I’m hoping most of the journey will be flat.”
Valerie’s target is £750. She has already raised £580 and has planned a quiz for hospital staff and a themed meal at a Vietnamese restaurant to help her raise money. Sponsor her at www.justgiving.com/valerieonherbike.
