A NEW electronic record system has been introduced in Bromley borough's hospitals and GP surgeries to help improve patient care.

Bromley NHS Primary Care Trust says patients will benefit from “faster and safer” care as doctors and nurses in A&E departments, walk-in centres and out-of-hours GP services will be able to see patient healthcare information electronically.

The records will show a patient’s medical history, including details of allergies, medications and any previous adverse reactions to medicines.

Over the next 12 to 18 months summary care records will be created for all patients in the borough wishing to have one.

Chairman of the professional executive committee for Bromley, Dr Angela Bhan, said: “Summary care records will improve the quality of patient care by giving faster, easier access to reliable information to help with treatment, particularly in emergency situations.”
