ELTHAM: People urged to take part in bowel cancer screening

9:50am Sunday 31st January 2010

PEOPLE are being urged to take part in a bowel cancer screening programme.

Eltham and Plumstead MP, Clive Efford, met with representatives from Beating Bowel Cancer at their annual Be Loud Be Clear reception to raise awareness of the importance of screening.

All people aged 60 to 69 in England are invited for screening every two years through the NHS bowel cancer screening programme.

But in Eltham only 45 per cent of people have taken part in screening since it was made available.

Mr Efford said: “Too many people are dying from this curable disease.

“Which is why I am being loud about the importance of screening to ensure people in Eltham stay clear of bowel cancer.’

Beating Bowel Cancer is a charity dedicated to raising awareness of bowel cancer, promoting early diagnosis and encouraging open access to treatment choice for those affected by bowel cancer.
