A DISABLED New Eltham mum says her life has been turned "upside down" after being left with an unusable bathroom for four weeks and forced to wash at friends’ houses.

Wheelchair-bound Julianne Dillaway, who requires a wet room to bathe, has had to travel miles to wash herself and her four children after the bathroom ceiling collapsed nearly a month ago.

News Shopper: Repairs in the wet room have been delayed after Mrs Dillaway's ceiling collapsed.

The 32-year-old, who suffers from spine-affecting osteoarthritis, claims she was told to "wash her kids in the sink" by L&Q Housing Association which is responsible for the delayed repairs in Oakley Drive.

Mrs Dillaway told News Shopper: "A normal family shouldn’t go through what we are going through, let alone with us.

"This is our life, they are turning upside down.

"They couldn’t care less."

She says it is also affecting the anxiety-levels of her eight-year-old son Benjamin who suffers from severe autism.

She said: "They can’t get away with this - there are two vulnerable people here.

"They have told me: ‘wash the children in the sink’. It is absolutely a joke."

Mrs Dillaway says she first contacted the housing association four weeks ago when the ceiling fell down but a series of plumbing problems meant the wet room could not be used.

Since News Shopper contacted the housing association, they have apologised for the "unacceptable delay".

An L&Q Housing Association spokesman said: "There has been an ongoing repair issue with leaks in the wet room, which has caused an unacceptable delay.

"We are very sorry for the inconvenience this has caused Mrs Dillaway and her family.

"We have spoken to Mrs Dillaway to offer our sincere apologise and assured her that the area surveyor will keep in contact to ensure that all works are completed to her satisfaction.

"L&Q will also be addressing the underlying issues to ensure this does not happen in the future."

He went on to say the shower room pump has now been replaced and the work was due to be finished by Friday [Feb 28].
