DARENT Valley Hospital has helped more than 50 people check their diabetes risk through a special event this month.
Both staff and patients completed a questionnaire on their lifestyle and family background as part of the hospital’s campaign for Diabetes Awareness Day on November 14.
They learned about the likelihood of contracting the disease and were given information to take away on how to prevent it.
Lead diabetes specialist nurse Karen Lecount said "We saw a complete mix of scores through the day.
"There were people who weren’t properly aware of the risks and we were able to help them with information and there were those who were very pleased to find their risk was low.
"All in all it was a really positive opportunity to help support and engage with the public, especially with some who might otherwise have never given diabetes a thought."
