PATIENT care for mums giving birth at Lewisham Hospital has improved, according to the results of a national inspection.
Lewisham Hospital’s maternity services – which include a state-of-the-art birthing centre - have been upgraded in a UK-wide NHS Trust inspection by Clinical Negligence Schemes for Trusts (CNST).
It comes after the battle to keep Lewisham’s full maternity and A&E facilities open was taken to the High Court with two judicial reviews last week.
Chair of Lewisham’s Clinical Commissioning Group Dr Helen Tattersfield said: "This just shows maternity services at the hospital are continuing to improve.
"There has been much publicity and the potential for future change – but nothing could happen for two to three years and this is also subject to a Judicial Review.
"In the meantime the trust is continuing to improve services, and I would encourage local women to choose Lewisham Hospital."
