A GREAT-GRANDMOTHER celebrated her 100th birthday in Charlton surrounded by friends and family with a guest appearance from the Mayor of Greenwich who cut the cake.

Ethel Clenshaw received an honourary card from the Queen to mark her 100 years yesterday (September 12) at Charlton Park Care Home.

The centenarian was thrown a birthday tea party by staff at the home and relatives with musical entertainment and a finger food buffet.

Home manager Michelle Macadangdang said: “I think Ethel really enjoyed seeing her relatives. “They came from all over and this is the first time they had been together for a long time, so it was a bit of a reunion.

“She was really chuffed that the Mayor had spent some time there and he cut her cake.”
