Family's dog rescued from burning building in Plumstead
A FAMILY pet has been rescued from her dog basket in a burning building in Plumstead this morning.
Firefighters were called to Majendie Road where an older woman and child had escaped the flames while the English Bull Terrier remained trapped inside.
The Plumstead fire crew donned breathing apparatus and saved “Flo” who was still inside her dog basket in the smoke-clogged house and is uninjured.
Two fire engines and around 10 fire fighters were called to the scene at 10.48am and had the flames under control half an hour later.
Plumstead’s Watch Manager Ian Murray said: “Crews did a fantastic job and quickly rescued Flo before any real harm came to her.
“Had they not acted so quickly, Flo might not have survived the fire. Fortunately the woman and child weren’t injured either.
He added: “Our fire investigators believe the blaze was caused by a cigarette that hadn’t been disposed of properly. If you smoke, it’s so important to make sure your cigarettes are completely out once you’ve finished with them.”
The cause of the fire is now under investigation.
